Kakinada, De 23rd: Farmers has seriously opposed the take over of lands for Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on Tuesday. Promoters have purchased the lands from farmers by paying compensation. But demanding for more compensation farmers showed unwillingness to vacant the lands.
Promoters with the assistance of revenue and police force charged against the farmers insisting them to vacant the lands. Farmers supported by farm workers revolted against the police and the revenue officers. The operation started simultaneously in various places including Uppada, Kothapalli and Tondangi mandals.
The operation started in the late hours on Monday due to the leakage of news to the media. On hearing the news farmers and farm workers turned in large numbers and foiled the attempt of workers in erecting poles. Farmers who opposed fencing wee taken in vans and left at a distant place.
Few of the farmers with sticks have chased the Tondangi sub-inspector, Mr Venkateswara Rao for some distance. East Godavari superintendent of police Mr Y Nagi Reddy said that the operation was concluded by the Tuesday evening.
