Kakinada, Dec 14: Farmers are more inclined towards micro-irrigation as this process serves effective control of weeds and diseases through water contamination. This process also gives more financial returns with less usage of water. The system has gained significance in the last few years with more crop yield.

    Government is giving more encouragement to the farmers towards this process, as the disadvantages are less compared to other methods of irrigation. This system is gaining prominence in the delta area particularly for commercial crops like palm, sugarcane, mulberry, horticulture and agriculture.

    As the part of effective implementation APMIP was given a target of 2,700 hectors in East Godavari district. This method includes both Sprinkler and Dip irrigation with does not carry the diseases that were seen in flooding of water. Water flow confirms only to a particular plant and does not allow the growth of weeds.

    APMIIP East Godavari project director said that, government is showing interest in micro-irrigation with the changing needs of the farming and due to its man power and time saving process. He said that in addition to subsidiary, the farmers are provided with trained workers at mandal level to assist them.
