Kakinada, Mar 5th: Farmers of East Godavari district are preferring cultivation in the mode of micro irrigation. Most of the farmers are inclining towards this method as it gives good financial results. This method has picked up momentum as it has many advantages compared to the other modes of irrigation. The advantages include less utilization of pesticides, better crop yield, low water usage, good financial results and many more. In addition to the upland area farmers, the farmers of delta areas are also paying interest on this mode of cultivation as soil born diseases can also be decreased to a larger extend.
Compared to the methods of cultivation in the last five years, the cultivation in this mode has risen from 1,200 hectors to 2,700 hectors. Mr. V. Satyanarayana, additional project director of the Andhra Pradesh Micro Irrigation Project (APMIP) said that the project that was taken up in 2003 covered 172 farmers in the district and subsidiary was provided to farmers with a cost of Rs 28.35 Lakh. In this year 2,700 farmers were covered and the subsidiary was extended to Rs 5.11crore. This tunes to 70 per cent of total income.
