Eluru, June 9th: West Godavari police arrested 14 persons involved in circulation of fake currency notes and seized Rs 23 lakh worth fake notes, Rs 1 lakh original currency and 10 mobile phones here on Tuesday. According to the district SP (Superintendent of Police), Mr. B. Bala Krishna, a special team was formed headed by Narasapuram CI, Mr. Madhusudhan Rao, and the SI, Mr. Jaganmohan Rao, following reports of circulation of fake currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.
The team arrested six members and seized Rs 10 lakh worth fake notes and a motorcycle. Based on the information given by arrested gang, police arrested a gang of another six and seized Rs 9 lakh worth fake notes from them. Later police conducted raids at Gollalamamidada in East Godavari and arrested Srinivasa Reddy, Rama Reddy and Sathi Srinivasa Reddy and seized Rs 4 lakh worth fake notes. One of the arrested, Alangir Sheik said that they were getting the fake notes from West Bengal.
