District Collector, Mr. M. Ravi Chandra, on Monday, made it clear to the officials to pay the ex gratia to the rain victims only through bank or postal accounts. Cash payments were not at all entertained he added. During a teleconference with the officials, he said rice and kerosene must be distributed to the victims on a condition. Stating that the total loss was put at Rs. 82.3 Cr of which the damage to the housing sector was recorded as Rs. 2.15 Cr due to heavy rain in East Godavari District. Mr. Ravi Chandra said that as many as 56,504 houses were inundated, 2,115 thatched houses were damaged completely and another 3,744 were partially damaged in the District. Over all, 21 deaths were reported from the district. Referring to the loss of assets, he said that 45 assets belong to the Road and Building Department, 423 of the Panchayat Raj Department, 520 belonged to the Irrigation Department, 2,157 of the Electricity Department and nine roads belonged to the municipal corporations were damaged.
