Kakinada, Nov 21st: The process of replacement of manual operated weighing machines with Electronic Weighing Machines (EWMs) had begun in East Godavari. The Kakinada revenue division in the first among the five divisions in the district which took up this program from the first week on this month. The replacement of ordinary weighing machines with the electronic ones was initiated by district administration to bring in transparency, and correct weight for the consumer through the PDS system in the district.
There were several complaints from consumers regarding the incorrect weight at the time of delivery of PDS items like rice, sugar, wheat, redgram and other items. The revenue divisional officer, Mr. G.C Kishore Kumar initiated special measures for installation of these machines in fair price shops. Karapa mandal in the revenue stood first in effective replacement of ordinary weighing machines with the EWMs. He said that the process of installations of these EWMs was 70 percent complete and would be completed by November end.
