Kakinada, Nov 29th: East Godavari district stood first in the state for successfully implementing the Dr. YSR Abhayahastham, a pension scheme aimed at providing security for women. By tallying the total self help group members enrolled in the scheme in the district and their total contribution it received with that of other districts, the authorities concerned placed in the top one position followed by Warangal.

The basic eligibility to receive pension under the scheme is that the women should be enrolled as members in self help groups. The pension of Rs 500/- will be given to women when they attain 60 years of age. Though the scheme was envisaged for women in the 18-59 years age group, it was extended to those above 59 years as desired by YSR. Speaking to the media, Mr. B.
