Rajahmundry, July 10th: The West Godavari district administration is taking all measures to overcome the constraints in the construction of Indiramma houses. The district stood fourth place in the implementation of the housing scheme phases I, II and III. The administration has targeted construction of 2,16,277 housing units in all three phases and so far, managed to complete nearly 1,06,005 units. The remaining units are under various stages of completion. There are still 76,924 units to be taken up.
The major constraint for delay as per schedule is stated to be difficulties involved in acquisition of construction material and leveling of ground for construction of houses in addition to several other reasons, including additional financial support to beneficiaries to complete construction. The high fertility of soil in West Godavari is the basis for a high price acquisition of land. Most farmers cultivate mainly paddy while some others cultivate commercial crops in some upland areas in the district.
As government offers lower prices when compared to the prevailing market price, no farmers are willing to part with his lands. As the soil is fertile, beneficiaries cannot afford to get huge mounds of mud to level the grounds.
