Rajahmundry, June 2nd: To keep a check on the increasing number of road accidents, the road transport authorities have taken up a drive to book the vehicles driven by minors. Owners of the vehicles will be booked for permitting their vehicles to be used by minors and besides this their license will also be cancelled. Teenagers driving high capacity vehicles at high speeds and causing fatal accidents is a common sight.

To regulate the vehicles running with high speed, transport authorities are keeping a check at select points on NH 5. Speed will be monitored by using laser guns and fine to the tune of Rs 1,000 will be imposed, especially on commercial vehicles which cross a speed limit of 65 km per hour. The authorities has conducted survey to identify accident prone areas on NH-5 and have come up with recommendations to take up corrective measures.

To ensure the safety of students traveling by school buses, the road transport authorities have sent notices to the school managements to take necessary repairs to their vehicles to get their licenses renewed. According to the road transport deputy commissioner, Mr. M. Praveen Rao, more road accidents are being caused by auto rickshaws as they were overloaded and driven rashly.
