DRC halts sand mining

Kakinada, Feb 11th:  The East Godavari District Review Committee (DRC) meet on Thursday resolved to stay mining of sand reaches of leaseholders failed to submit clearances from the groundwater department to carry out mining operations in the district. While reviewing the progress of auctions for sand reaches, a few opposition party MLA's pointed out that the corrupt practices of the officials had caused a steep decline in income to the district. A heated argument was held on the issue for an hour among members and officials concerned.

Finally, district in charge minister and minister for panchayat raj, Mr. Botsa Satyanarayana took decision to stay the mining and directed officials to implement the order from Friday. Earlier minister inquired about the progress of the national rural employment guarantee scheme, Indiramma housing schemes, ration cards and public distribution system, agriculture in the rabi season, pensions, domestic and agricultural power supply. After taking suggestions and feedback from MLAs of all constituencies and Amalpuram MP, Mr. Harsha Kumar, the in-charge minister directed officials to complete all pending schemes by March 31.
