Documentary Released by Collector

District Collector M. Ravi Chandra released a documentary on Sir Arthur Cotton made by the Civil Engineering Department of JNTU-Kakinada on the occasion of the legendary engineer's 207th birth anniversary on Saturday. The program was organized by the Institution of Engineers (India), Kakinada Center, and Retired Irrigation Engineers Association. Addressing the gathering, Mr.Ravi Chandra said Sir Arthur Cotton was a great visionary engineer & Sir Arthur Cotton barrage at Dowleswaram and the Gannavaram aqueduct withstood the wandering of nature due to the high quality of material used for constructing the projects and their excellent designs. Mr. Ravi Chandra complimented JNTU-K Vice-Chancellor Allam Apparao for taking the initiative to bring out a documentary on Sir Arthur Cotton. As a former student of the JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, he was privileged to release the documentary on the same premises on which he was a student in the early 1990s. He looked forward to the young engineers to contribute their mite for developing India into a technologically vibrant country. Prof. Appa Rao said he wished to endorse the documentary on Sir Arthur Cotton to the Films Division of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for screening in cinema theaters and at other forums to keep memories of him alive in the people's minds. Sir Arthur Cotton was not only an irrigation engineer but also an economist, who could envisage the importance of fully tapping the water resources for the local economy. Roads and Buildings Department Superintendent Engineer B Manohar Swamy, JNTU-K Directors K. Satya Prasad and B.Prabhakar Rao, Head of Department of Civil Engineering K.V.S.G. Murali Krishna and others were present.
