Doctors Abstain from 3 Day Boycott

As the duty doctor’s boycott on attending outpatients, patients visiting Government General Hospital from various parts of the District continued the suffering of for the third consecutive day. The doctors demanded to take stringent action against the relatives of neonatal mother Oleti Durga Gowri, who died while undergoing treatment in the hospital in the early hours of Monday. Holding the doctors responsible for the death, her relatives quarreled with the doctors and staged a dharna outside the hospital. Subsequently, the doctors began protest by not attending the outpatients. This resulted in a lot of inconvenience to patients from across the district. There was no one to listen to the troubles of the patients, as the para-medical employees were also participating in the protest. Except the emergency cases, the doctors were not visiting any other patient for the last three days. The District Administration continued to take steps to calm the doctors and make them stop the agitation. Additional Joint Collector Mr. B. Rama Rao, Superintendent Mr.MBR Sharma and other officials interacted with the doctors. The doctors made it clear that action must be taken against the relatives who were responsible for the quarrel. Following their demands, police cross checked the video recording where a woman attacked a woman doctor. Police took the woman into custody and later doctors had withdrawn their boycott.
