Joint Collector K.Sasidhar ordered that all warehouses in the district should be opened to ensure smooth implementation of the Public Distribution System (PDS). Problems between the State Warehousing Corporation (SWC) and managements of private warehouses should not restrict the PDS. If the private warehouses continue to be shut, Essential Services Maintenance Act would be appealed against them, Mr.Sasidhar warned. During his inspection of a private warehouse at Samalkot, which is under SWC control, on Thursday, Mr.Sasidhar said there are 30 warehouses in the district belonging to the Food Corporation of India and Central and State Warehousing Corporations. Of them, 14 are investor go-downs. Due to differences between the SWC and private go-down owners over the tariffs, several go-downs were closed for the last 10 days, causing severe problems to implementation of PDS and rice supply. Mr.Sasidhar said steps are being taken to transport the rice stocks lying in go-downs to the designated locations for supplying under the PDS. Instead of keeping the go-downs shut, their owners should sort out the issues with the SWC in an amicable way. Assistant Collector Vivek Yadav, District Civil Supplies Officer Yesu Ratnam, State Civil Supplies Corporation district manager Y. Narasimha Rao, Kakinada RDO .C. Kishore Kumar, SWC regional manager VVV Satyanarayana and others were present.
