Dharna by nursing students

Kakinada, Dec 22nd: Demanding to enhance the stipend, the government nursing students staged dharna in front of the Government General Hospital (GGH) on Tuesday. They boycotted the classes and sat before the main entrance of the hospital and raised slogans to enhance the stipend. Nursing students get stipend of only Rs 500 per month. They demanded that the government should immediately enhance the amount from Rs 500 to Rs 4,000 for first year students, Rs 600 to Rs 4,500 for second year students, and Rs 700 to Rs 5,000 to the final year students.

Students union president, Jeeva Kumar revealed that they were going to intensify the stir if the government does not accept their demands. Leaders Lakshmi Kumari, Krupavaram and others extended their support and took part in dharna. The health services in GGH were affected with dharna. Patients in the hospital faced several problem with the agitation as the nursing students do night duties taking care of them in the hospital.
