Kakinada, Mar 15th: The beneficiaries of NREGS (National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) staged dharna at panchyat office of P. Rayavaram of Pithapuram Mandal here on Sunday. The beneficiaries staged dharna for more than 4 hours alleging that the officials of the postal department at Gollaprolu were not properly paying the dues of their wages for last three weeks. Raising slogans against the officials, the laborers including women said that the postal officials have to pay the due worth Rs 5 lakh to them.
As many as 300 persons hailing from Rayavaram are working under the scheme, where the officials are failing to pay the wages to them till date. They further said that the officials were paying wages to the beneficiaries who can give bribe to them. The workers further lamented that they had brought this issue to the notice of the postal department and NREGS officials. But the officials had not taken any action till now, they alleged. They demanded the government to take severe action on the officials concerned and pay their dues immediately.
