Kakinada, June 3rd: Members of Andhra Pradesh Medical Employees’ Union (APMEU) staged a demonstration at the entrance gate of the Government General Hospital on Wednesday protesting against the memo number 6985 issued by the principal secretary of Medical and Health department. The employs alleged that the memo will deprive the medical employs from their rights.
Addressing the gathering, APMEU honorary president K. Krishna Rao said that the memo 6985 was violation of the provisions of the Trade Unions Act, 1926, and Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, and it was bound to worsen the plight of medical employees working in hospitals and nursing homes. The Supreme Court had conferred ‘industry’ status to hospitals and nursing homes way back in 1978 but the employees were getting meager salaries and their working conditions were poor. APMEU State vice-president B. Achamamba called upon the employees to prepare themselves for strike on June 9.
