Kakinada, Feb 22nd: Alleging that government has not provided any financial aid to them till now, the kin of the victims of hooch tragedy in Konaseema of East Godavari district staged a massive dharna in-front of the
collectorate here on Monday. Nearly 500 family members of the victims took part in the dharna demanding the government to fulfill their demands including ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the each deceased. Hundreds of activists belonging to various organizations raised slogans, demanding jobs to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent hooch tragedy, punishing the hooch traders and seizure of the properties of the liquor syndicate.
On behalf of the victims family, the Kakinada city secretary of the CPI, Mr. S. Ganga Babu said that they planning to demolish all the liquor centers in the Konaseema area with the help of women organizations, as the government and the departments of police and excise are failing to do so. They alleged that the excise department officials were conniving with the arrack brewers. Later, the leaders of the organizations called on the DRO in a delegation and presented a memorandum.
