Kakinada, June 29th: The distribution of text books which must be completed by June 12 is still lagging behind in East Godavari district. The gross requirement for this academic year was estimated to be 40.32 lakh for students from classes I to X out of which the department holds stock to the tune of 4.44 lakh books from the balance of the previous academic year. Of the remaining balance of 35.88 lakh, books tune of 27.06 were distributed to various schools in municipal, ZP and mandal parishad Schools.
According to sources the district is yet to receive 8.82 lakh textbooks from the printing press. The change of textbooks for classes I, III and V and delay at the press in releasing the books is said to be the reason for delay in supplies. The district educational department assistant director, Mr. M.S.A Karim said that they were making arrangements for the supply of remaining books by the end of July. Arrangements were also being made to collect text books from students promoted to the next class.
