Defence minister retains seat

Kakinada, May 17th: The union minister of state for defence, Mr. M.M Pallam Raju retained the Kakinada Lok Sabha Seat for the third time. In the triangular contest between PRP candidate, Mr. Chalamalasetty Sunil and TD nominee, Mr. Vasamsetty Satyanarayana the minister won the seat by a margin of 34,004 votes. On the other hand the Kakinada Assembly (city) seat was won by Dwarampudi Chandra Shekar Reddy of Congress and Kakinada (rural) was won by Kurasala Kanna Babu of PRP.

 

While Pallam Raju polled 3, 23,607 votes, the PR and TD candidates polled 2, 89,563 and 2, 58,046 votes respectively. The counting for the recently polled elections took place on Saturday and the results were declared on the same day.

 

On the other side the congress has won only Tuni, Jaggampeta and Kakinada city Assembly seats. The remaining assembly seats of Pithapuram, Peddapuram and Kakinada rural went in favor of PRP and the Prathpadu constituency went to TDP. Earlier Mr. Raju was elected from Kakinada in 1989 and 2004 general elections.

 

Withstanding tough competition from PRP and TD candidate, Mr. Raju turned to be victorious. Speaking to the media persons after his victory, he gave the entire credit to both Mrs. Sona Gandhi and Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy. He also said that the welfare schemes and the development activities taken up by the congress government have made the government to come out with positive results. He promised to work for the betterment of the people.
