Kakinada, Mar 14th: East Godavari district is likely to witness a huge decline in the production of paddy this year. According to the agricultural officials the decline would be around two lakh metric tones compared to last year. Former minister and senior leader from TDP, Mr. Ch. Ramachandra Rao commented that the decrease in the production is due to the drought and the negligence of the government in failing to supply enough water for crops in time. He said that not only the paddy but also the production of pulses have also been affected. The production of the black gram and other pulses has also been damaged due to virus, which was merely due to supply of poor quality seeds by the government. Speaking to the media, the joint director of the agriculture department, Mr Nandaiah said that the decline was due to severe drought in the district and no defect with the government was found.
