DCA secures convictions

Rajahmundry, July 25th: The Drugs Control Administration authorities secured several convictions against the culprits involved in selling drugs of substandard quality, and in selling blood bags without valid license, in West Godavari. A case was booked against the proprietor of Sri Lakshmi Diagnostics of Palacole for sale of blood bags without valid license. The additional judicial first class magistrate court convicted the proprietor, Alluri Suryanarayana Raju, and sentenced him to two years imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000.

In a case of diversion of medicines from the government stocks and resorting to sale of physician’s samples at Deverapally, the additional judicial first class magistrate court of kovvur imposed a sentence of one year imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000. The convictions do not seem to serve as a deterrent. There are instances where habit forming drugs like alprazolam tablets, capsules containing formulations like spasmoproxyvon, butaproxyvon, fortwin type injections and various types of cough syrups are being sold across the counters without prescriptions from a physician.
