Kakinada, Mar 23rd: The District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) got 26,027 cataract surgeries performed last year against the target of 25,663. It was 101.1 per cent achievement that was made possible by Sri Kiran Institute of Ophthalmology, Kakinada, Gowtami Eye Hospital, Rajahmundry, and other private clinics. Addressing mediapersons at the Government General Hospital here on Tuesday, DBCS programme manager P.V. Prasad said there were 204 eye donations against the target of 198 and, eye screening was done for 580 schoolchildren while the target was 814. Under the Drushti programme, tests were conducted in 342 out of 255 welfare hostels in the district. Forty-four children were recommended for specialist services in view of the seriousness of ailments, which they were afflicted with. A total of 1,700 children were found to be suffering from minor ailments. A total of 44,338 children were diagnosed.
