Kakinada, Mar 19th: The chief executive officer of the Kakinada deep water port, Mr. Y.S Prasad said that the handling of crude oil under STS category had come down to 80% in this year 2009-10. The Kakinada port which is one of the busiest minor ports in the country could handle only 1.51 million tones of crude oil in this year when compared to 6.72 million tones in 2008-09. According to sources there were further chances of loosing in the coming financial years. Officials maintain that the decline is the result of setting up Paradip Halda crude oil pipeline system at Paradip port in Orissa. However this would not affect the port business, as its role here was minimum, acting only as facilitator for refineries and crude oil vessels, the CEO added.
