Hyderabad, July 5th: The Fee Regulatory Committee’s proposals to control the fee structure in private schools have evoked sharp criticism from students and parents. Several parents have submitted objections to the directorate of school education. They complained that the proposals will lead to further fee hike instead of curbing it. The committee had proposed to fix the upper ceiling at Rs 24,000 for primary students and Rs 30,000 for high school students. Some parents said that the upper ceiling for high schools and fee for engineering courses are almost the same.

The five member committee recommended a uniform upper ceiling for the entire state contrary to expectations that it will be categorized based on schools, facilities offered and location. Parents argued that there cannot be a uniform upper ceiling for the entire state. They termed the proposals as unscientific and said that they were drafted hastily just by taking the opinion of school management located in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

My parents fear that the schools who were collecting the fees less that the ceiling given by the committee might hike the fees. Even the officials opposed the proposals. AP State Council of Higher Education chairman, Prof Reddy said that the upper ceiling is too high and it will lead to unhealthy competition among schools.
