Rajahmundry, May 12th: The district municipal authorities will initiate criminal action against the companies supplying packaged drinking water if any contaminated water supply was noticed by them. The authorities seized the water products that were being transported in an auto rickshaw on Tuesday. They noticed bacteria in two sachets and a bottle in their examination.
Municipal health officer, Dr. G. Satyadev examined the water sachets with a special kit made for the purpose in the presence of media. He noticed residues of bacteria which cause diarrhea. Health officer revealed that they have seized 6,500 water sachets and more than 200 water bottles from several places in last two days. Authorities also noticed that the details of packing date were not provided by some firms.
Mr. Satyadev said that water once packed should be used within one month, if not bacteria would develop in the waster causing health problems to those who drink it. Municipal commissioner, Dr. V. Rajendra said that they were going to conduct raids on commercial establishments including hotels, messes and pan shops to prevent the sale of contaminated water. Raids will be also done on ice factories and cases will be booked against them if they use contaminated water for making ice.
