Hyderabad, July 20th: The police officials will send SMS crime alerts to at least 20 lakh Hyderabadis every day. The alerts include latest crime trends and information on gangs that prowl in the city. Revealing the details the commissioner of police, Mr. B. Prasada Rao, said that they were launching the free alerts program in the city where police will give contents and profiles while Absolute160, a private firm will give the database, technology and connectivity.
The alerts cover a wide variety of subjects such as pickpocketing, attention diversion in banks, counter terror, theft, burglary, robbery, snatching, cellphone and e-mail abuse, counterfeit currency, chit fund frauds and real estate frauds. If citizens want to receive crime alerts, they can type CA and send an SMS to 9010100100. If they don’t want, they can type NoCA and send it to the same number. Photos of criminals will also be sent to all citizens who have GPRS connectivity.
