Hyderabad, July 17th: The AP High Court on Friday, refused to stay the process of counseling for filling engineering and MBBS seats. A division bench was dealing with a petition challenging an ordinance to give 25 percent weightage to the marks obtained in Intermediate examinations and restricting the Eamcet marks to 75 percent. The bench said this exercise would be subject to the final outcome of the ongoing litigation. Few of the aspirants of medical courses have approached the HC challenging the ordinance issued by the government to give weightage marks to Eamcet candidates.

Mr. S. Ramachandra Rao, senior counsel for the petitioners, said the Medical Council of India (MCI) Act and the All India Council for Technical Education Act mention that only merit in the entrance tests should be the criterion for filling up medical and engineering seats. Meanwhile the officials of higher education said there would not be any change in Eamcet engineering admissions. The chairman of the AP State Council of Higher Education, Prof K.C Reddy said that they were planning to go ahead with the counseling as per the schedule.
