Vijayawada, Sep 15th: A Circle Inspector (CI) and a Home guard were reportedly injured when supporters of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) pelted stones at police personnel after their leader and founder of ABC Educational Institutions A. Buchiah Chowdary died in a road accident at Nawabpet village in Krishna district on Tuesday. Police said Chowdary, traveling in a vehicle was killed when an unidentified vehicle rammed into it. On hearing the news the supporters and TDP leaders rushed to the spot and staged a road roko agitation, alleging that their leader was murdered.
Following this, traffic came to a grinding halt for about five km on the Machilipatnam-Pune National Highway-nine. Meanwhile, a huge contingent of police force swung into action and lathicharged the mob to clear the traffic. Tension prevailed for some time as the TDP supporters hurled stones on the police in which the officials were injured. Later, the situation was brought under control, police added.
