Rajahmundry, July 17th: Police constables would be taught the spirit of social service apart from various traits during their training to help them deal with various issues while discharging duties. The inspector general, Mr. Vinay Singh told newsmen that they were planning to introduce a new phase in training mode for constables to help them deal various issues firmly. He said that they were going to rope in beggars, rickshaw pullers, small traders and event the management experts to give training to the constables in addition to giving training on swimming, driving, computer education mountaineering and also in martial arts.
The IG said that five constables could be formed into a team and would be sent to a village to help them learn about the importance of social service, literacy and also about several welfare schemes. Maintaining that the constables at present were undergoing training on specific skills, he said that they would undergo training in social service on July 27. He added that this is the first time in the country that police were given such training.
The main objective for giving such training was to help change mindset among the police personnel towards society, he said and added that such training would be given to all 37,000 constables who were going to be recruited in a phased manner in the state. At present 12,000 constables were undergoing training at 45 training centers in the state and an additional 22,000 personnel would be given training shortly. The government was spending nearly Rs 80 crore for providing training and Rs 1 crore was spent in order to prepare the syllabus for training.
