Hyderabad, May 16th: Congress retained power both in the state as well as in the center by winning 157 out of 294 seats in the Assembly and contributing 33 Lok Sabha seats to the party at the center in the results announced by the election authorities on Saturday. The pre-polling promises of the opposition including the color TV and cash transfer scheme of Telugu Desam Party and the groceries for Rs 100 of the Praja Rajyam did not work.
One factor that played a key role in the congress victory is the gratitude expresses by the beneficiaries of the various welfare schemes taken up by the congress government. Few of them include Rajiv Arogyasri, Rs 2 a kilo scheme, Indiramma housing project, free power to farmers, fee reimbursement to students and others. More than 1 crore beneficiaries have blessed the congress and expressed their gratitude with votes. Initially the Congress government was scared that the people need to opt for a change but this perception proved wrong and the Y.S government got a clear mandate.
It is clearly proved that the filmy glamour did not have any impact in the elections. Apart from Jayasudha and Vijayashanthi all the other actors and actresses who contested in polls have lost their mandate. Actors Roja, Murali Mohan, Krishnam Raju, Babu Mohan, Naresh, Posani Krishna Murali, producers Allu Aravind, Chengala Venkatarao faced defeat. PRP president Chiranjeevi who contested from Tirupathi and Palakole constituencies lost in Palakole. Star campaigns of Bala Krishna, Junior NTR, Pavan Kalyan, Allu Arjun and Ram Charan Teja did not yield any results for TD and PR.
The outcomes of results are as follows:
Andhra Pradesh 294
Party Assembly Loksabha
Congress 157 33
TDP 91 06
PRP 18 00
TRS 10 02
MIM 07 01
