Congress seeks opinion on Telangana

Hyderabad, Dec 7 : With Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao continuing his fast unto death to demand a separate Telangana state, the ruling Congress party Monday intensified efforts to find a solution. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah Monday night sought the opinion of all the parties of the state at an all party meeting, convened on the direction of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Rosaiah later conveyed the opinion of all the parties to the Congress' central leadership, which is likely to take a decision Tuesday.

The Congress party said it would abide by the decision of its central leadership and the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) said it would take a stand in couple of days but all other parties backed the demand for giving separate statehood to Telangana region, comprising 10 districts including Hyderabad. The TRS, the man opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the two communist parties, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) and Lok Satta said if the government moves a resolution in the assembly, they would support it.
