A meeting was organized by the AIDWA (All India Democratic Women’s Association) at local Sudarayya Bhavan on Monday. The meeting is all about the rise of belt shops in the district with the increased targets of the government for the sale of liquor in the state. Huge number of women participated in the meeting and raised slogans against the government for its irresponsible rule. They alleged that the government is bothered about the targets and was the neglecting the common man.
Secretary of AIDWA, Ms T. Savitri presided over the meeting. Speaking on the occasion she revealed that the government has raised the targets from 4,000 crore to 13,000 crore in the last four years. With these fixed targets the excise departments are forced to open large number of belt shops so as to promote the sale in a massive scale. She said that most of the belt shops are located nearer to the housing colonies and between housing areas where huge number of daily earners live. This created worry among the women and women’s organizations. She called upon women to revolt against the government which is responsible for all these problems. Telugu Mahila leader Y.
