Concern over delay in transplantation

Kakinada, July 1st: The district review meeting of East Godavari district was organized at Zilla Parishad office on Wednesday. The new in charge minister, Mr. Botsa Satyanarayana presided over the meeting. Several members cutting across the party lines brought to the notice of the authorities the non-availability of water to Kharif. Many expressed concern over the delayed transplantation of paddy in some areas, loss of topioca crop in upland areas, shortage of pure drinking water and increased graft in works under the NREGS in the district.

 

Members demanded compensation to farmers who cultivated tapioca over about 30,000 hectare in upland areas and lost it due to lack of timely rains. On the shortage of drinking water, the minister for rural water supply (RWS), Mr. Pinepe Viswaroop said that a comprehensive water supply program was being taken up with Rs 443 crore which includes desalination of sea waters.

 

Responding to the graft allegations in the execution of NREGS works, the East Godavari district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi revealed that 316 employees were removed and enquiry on another 334 employees at various stages. The district ministers Pilli Subhashchandra Bose, Mr. Pinepe Viswaroop, the ZP chairman, Mr. Ch. Srinivasa Gopalkrishna, ITDA project officer Yogita Rani and others participated.
