Rajahmundry, July 5th: The Chief Minister, Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy announced setting up of protected drinking water schemes in all Agency areas in the state for tribals in a time frame of two years. Taking part in a tribal meet at Rampachodavaram Agency in East Godavari on Sunday, the Chief Minister made the statement after learning about the woes of tribals in getting a potful of drinking water in the Agency area.
The Chief Minister also called for providing 150 mandatory days of work for a household in a year under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Program by paying wages upto Rs 120 per day as per the norms. He took this decision after getting feedback from the tribals that they were unable to find work after completing 100 days of work under the NREGP. They requested him to provide work for some more days.
CM also announced that nearly 12 lakh acres of forest land would be given away to about three lakh tribals and non-tribals as part of the implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and other Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, which was revamped in 2008 in state soon. He asked the officials to take up measures to control malaria in Agency areas and advised tribals to avail welfare schemes including Rajiv Arogyasri, EMRI 108 and HMRI 104.
