The Irrigation Advisory Board conducted a meeting headed by District Collector Mr. M. Ravi Chandra here on Friday. In this meeting, they discussed issues such as release of water for the Rabi season, delta modernization, completion of the long-pending Polavaram irrigation project and delay in payment of ex gratia to farmers who lost their crop due to natural calamities. The Board passed an agreed resolution to release water to the entire Godavari ayacut by using the available reserves of River Godavari and in Yeleru and Sileru reservoirs for the following rabi season of Fasli-1420. The meeting also passed a resolution to close the Godavari canal from 30th March, 2011 to 30th June, 2010 to overlay for the delta modernization works. For this, the farmers need to complete the transplantation of paddy by 15th December, 2010, so that they could get the yield by 30th March, 2011. Social Welfare Minister Pilli Subhash Chandrabose said efforts were on limit the delay in completing the modernization works.
