Hyderabad, Oct 18th: The death of the physically challenged Agricultural Officer of Mehboobnagar district has snowballed into a major controversy with the woman officer holding Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Mahila President and Devarkadra MLA Sita Dayakar Reddy responsible for her mental torture and death, in her dying declaration. The AO Devarkadra mandal, Rajeswari, belonging to Backward Class was reportedly humiliated by Sita Dayakar Reddy over sanction of 90 per cent subsidy on sprinklers, which led to her allegedly setting herself on fire on the night of Oct 14.
She was rushed to the Apollo DRDO hospital here with serious burns injuries and died early on Oct 18, leading to an uproar by the women's organizations, other state Agricultural Officers and political parties, who demanded the arrest of Ms Sita Dayakar Reddy. Home Minister P Sabita Indira Reddy said the police at Marikal had already registered a case on the death of Rajeswari three days back. They were awaiting reports before initiating action.
Andhra Pradesh Small Scale Industries Minister D K Aruna assured vociferous demonstrators who had also met Ms Sabita Reddy and demanded action that this would be done after getting the investigation report. State Agricultural Commissioner Sunil Sharma ordered a departmental inquiry into the death of Rajeswari. Meanwhile, police dispersed demonstrators who also set up road blocks with officer's body arriving at Mehboobnagar this evening. The demo was by district backward classes and an organization of physically challenged.
