Earlier in the day, chairman and managing director of Kakinada Seaport Private Limited K.V. Rao and his wife Navatha formally named the cutter suction dredger as ‘Ganga.' Addressing the media after naming the cutter suction dredger owned by International Seaport Dredging Limited (ISD) as ‘Ganga' here on Friday, Chief supervisory Officer of Dredging Environmental Marine Engineering (DEME) Mr. Alain Bernard said the new dredger ‘Ganga' was being occupied in the maintenance of dredging in Kakinada port. Mr. Bernard has predicted huge potential for employment in ports and dredging in the future. He said that it can reach dredging depths between - 3m and - 22m. There would not be any environmental imbalances in the Hope Island due to the dredging in the port he added. The port has got all the clearances from the government. No special permission is required for maintenance of dredging, as it is a part of maintaining the port he said. Area Director of the DEME Pierre Potvliege, Director Alok Sinha and others were present.
