Cells to monitor fee reimbursement scheme

Hyderabad, June 3rd: The state government has decided to set up special cells to monitor fee reimbursement scheme for students pursuing higher education courses. The scheme is being monitored by respective welfare departments for backward classes, scheduled casts, scheduled tribes and minorities. The lack of proper monitoring mechanism and coordination among officials of various departments has delayed the disbursement of amount causing problems to the students and college management.

 

The government has launched the scheme last year with an outlay of Rs 2, 050 crore. A good response was received from the students with 24.16 lakh applicants pursuing courses like B.Tech, B.Pharmacy, MBBS, B.Ed, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, M. Pharmacy and many more. Students belonging to SC, ST, BC, minorities and PH categories with an annual family income below Rs 1 lakh are eligible to apply.

 

This year the government has decided to extend the schemes to the economically backward classes and has sanctioned Rs 300 crore as against Rs 30 crore last year. According to the principal secretary of higher education, Mr. Asuthosh Mishra, the government has decided to set up exclusive cells in each district to expedite processing of applications and to monitor the scheme.
