New Delhi, Dec 7th: The Central Board of Secondary Education has begun the process of evolving an official rating system for schools affiliated to it. The CBSE is soon going to start the rating of the schools based on its academic results, infrastructure, teacher student ratio and facilities available in it.  With this new process the parents will be able to decide which school to choose for their children. Around 10,500 schools in India and overseas are affiliated to the CBSE.

The human resources development minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal has proposed a school accreditation mechanism as part of his wider educational reform agenda while announcing his 100 day agenda at the beginning of the UPA governments second term. The sources said the minister wanted a rating system as parents should have the right to choose schools for their children on the basis of facts, rather than have to depend on reputation and perceptions.
