Hyderabad Jan 4th: The state government has finally decided to scrap the CBSE English medium syllabus in 6,500 government high schools from the ensuing academic year 2010-11. However, it will continue English medium in state government schools. The minister for secondary education, Mr. D. Manikya Vara Prasad Rao, on Monday officially made an announcement on doing away with CBSE at his chambers in the Secretariat. Mr Rao said that they have sought feedback from all the stakeholders on the issue including students, parents, teachers and public representatives. All of them were unanimous on scrapping the CBSE syllabus and replace it with the state syllabus.
Most of them opined that CBSE proved tough for students to learn in Class VI and also for teachers to teach as they have not training for the same. The CBSE English medium initiative was introduced by the late Y.S Rajasekhar Reddy in 2008-09 academic year from class VI. It was extended to class VII this year as part of the scheme to keep on extending it to a higher class annually till class XII. However the initiative backfired as the government failed to supply the CBSE textbooks on time to over two lakh students who opted for CBSE syllabus in the first year. With this half of the students reverted to Telugu medium.
