Kakinada, Dec 8th: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to offer broadband connections to students at 20 percent concession on charges from December 1 in East Godavari district. The district telecom general manager, Mr. G. Raghavendra Rao, told that they were going to offer broadband connections at a concessional tariff for only three months from December.

To regulate boardband connection monthly bills, pre-paid broadband vouchers were introduced, he said. For the first time in the country, a broadband connection without a landline phone was given in Rajahmundry and added that under this procedure, it was viable to give such connections only when there were 30 to 40 connections located either in offices or in colonies.

The telecom general manager said that for subscribers in rural areas, they were introducing a rural broadband connection by providing a specially designed landline phone having the facility to accommodate a mobile SIM card in it. Under the scheme, a subscriber has to pay Rs 2,000 for getting a broadband connection and she/he will get talktime worth Rs 50 with seconds pulse rate.
