Hyderabad, Sep 25th: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma today announced that India will achieve a breakthrough in anti-malarial vaccine soon as the research work was in advanced stage now. Inaugurating a three-day Indo-Africa Pharma Business meet here, he said the Centre had financed the research work. He expressed hope that the vaccine would come into market soon.
Stating that the Indian pharmaceutical industry had grown dramatically over the last few years, he said India had emerged as a major hub of R and D and innovation in this sector. He said India is known as the pharmacy of the poor. There were over 20,000 companies employing over five lakh people in the sector. He said Indian Pharma companies were producing 70,000 different drugs, which was even higher than those being produced in Germany.
