Kakinada, July 6th: An unknown substance exploded at Uppada, a fishermen’s village about 18 km from Kakinada town on Monday. One person was killed and another sustained injuries at the incident. According to information available, the disaster occurred when two persons of a family were digging sand from a heap near their house. The substance exploded when the deceased Ummidi Kumar, hit it with the spade while digging. The explosion was so severe that one of his legs and two hands were detached from the body and fell at about 30 meters away.
The other person, his brother-in-law, Ganni Chittibabu, who sustained minor injuries, was shifted tot the Pithapuram government hospital. The East Godavari superintendent of police, Mr. Y. Nagireddy, the SP administration, Mr. S.J. Janardhan, the Kakinada sub division police officer (SDPO), and Mr. B. Atchuta Rao, visited the spot. The suspicion team and sniffer dogs were pushed into service. Mr. Achuta Rao said that some material was collected from the place of explosion and sent to the forensic science laboratory (FSL) at Hyderabad for examination.
