Bankers need aid tenant farmers: Collector

Kakinada, July 29th: The chairman of the DLRC (District Level Review Committee) and district collector, Mr. Gopala Krishna Dwevedi sought bankers corporation in effective implementation of various government schemes including assistance to tenant farmers. The district level review meeting of bankers was held at the collectorate on Wednesday. Several issues related to banker’s assistance to various government schemes were discussed.

 

Speaking on the occasion collector revealed that of the six lakh farmers in the district, at least 50 percent were tenant farmers who were in need of crop loans. He also revealed that the administration was planning to form 20,000 joint liability groups with these sections and has already completed formation of 10,000 groups. He appealed to bankers to be more positive in catering to the needs of these sections.

 

Reviewing SHG-bank linkage program for women’s groups, the collector regretted the slow pace of financing to these sections. He directed the district housing manager, Mr. G. Satyanarayana to take steps for recovery under the Revenue Recovery Act. The DM revealed that special teams were already formed in urban areas for recovery. Assistance to handloom workers, extension to finance to entrepreneurs under the PMEGP and other issues were discussed.
