New Delhi, Oct 16th: Senior Andhra Pradesh Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao on Oct 16 sought the help of public sector banks for small traders and shopkeepers affected by the recent unprecedented floods in the river Krishna. The floods affected the lives of millions of people living in the basin area. In a letter to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Mr Rao said the floods had affected all sections of farmers, workers and small and big traders, rendering them homeless and unemployed. Traders, especially vendors, had lost everything they had in the disaster.
The state government was doing a 'great job' in relief and rehabilitation works with the timely help from the Centre, he said. However, small traders and shopkeepers were still to be compensated for their loss and it was time for the banks to offer loans without taking security and on a minimal interest, he stated. He also said ''I request you to advise banks to take necessary steps to help the affected masses.''
