Bandh held peacefully

Kakinada, Jan 4th: The bandh call given by the joint action committee of political parties, students and professional favoring united Andhra Pradesh passed off peacefully in both the East and West Godavari districts with an exception of a few incidents of violence resulting in destruction of property on Monday. As the political leaders, intellectuals and students have given the call for bandh to be observed on January 4 and rail roko on January 5, the managements of educational institutions announced holiday on Monday while the commercial establishments remained closed. The agitators forcefully closed some of the commercial establishments.

Meanwhile, RTC authorities in East Godavari canceled nearly 800 buses from plying from all its depots from the early hours and this resulted in revenue loss worth Rs 47 lakh. In West Godavari as many as 700 buses were off the roads incurring revenue loss worth Rs 35 lakh. Several political leaders, activists, students and professional were taken into custody for disrupting the normal life ans later were let off. As the JAC has given call for observing rail roko on January 5, the police are beefing up the security arrangements along with Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police to avoid any untoward incidents.
