Ban Sonography Tests says Collector

Collector Mr. M. Ravi Chandra warned doctors who were conducting Sonography tests for sex determination. He said that stringent action should be taken against medical practitioners who carry out sex determination tests and female Foeticide, under the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act. According to this, Mr. Ravi Chandra conducted a meeting with the district committee appointed for the PNDT act against sex determination tests. Members of the committee reviewed on promotion of rules & standards of Ultra Sound Scanning centers and their registrations. Speaking with the committee members, Collector said women should stand up against female foeticide. They should refuse to be threatened into undergoing a sex determination test and subsequent abortion of the female foetus by the husband and family, he added. He noticed that the Indian Medical Association (IMA) should prohibit doctors who conducted sex determination tests. Later, Committee decided to give approval for the eight newly registered Ultra Sound Scanning centers, which follows the Government standards. Mr. Ravi Chandra along with the committee decided to conduct a workshop as soon as possible to create awareness on Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act against Sonography tests for Doctors, staff of scanning centers and other social service people. District Medical & Health Officer Mr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Murali Krishna, Mr. P.Syam Prasad, Mr. D.Sambasiva Rao and others were present in the meeting.
