Rajahmundry, Jan 29th: Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society is going to launch an awareness campaign at a cost of Rs 10 crore in March to help people not to fall prey to the dreaded disease. In this concern, the APSACS project director Mr. R.V Chandravadan said that the disease is rampant in Guntur, West Godavari, East Godavari and Adilabad districts. The spread of the disease was due to migration of the workers from place to place and prostitution. He said that there are nearly 5.25 lakh AIDS patients in the state and out of them about 25,000 were getting treatment at the ART centers.
The project director inspected the Anti-Retroviral Therapy Center at the government hospital and the integrated Counseling and Testing Center set up recently at the Central Prison during his visit here on Friday. He assured to provide more facilities at the existing ART Center in the government hospital with funds from the Clinton Foundation. Later he visited the Central Prison to inspect the functioning of the newly set up Integrated Counseling and Testing Center for HIV/AIDS patients.
