Hyderabad, Feb 11 : Andhra Pradesh assembly special secretary K. Gopalakrishna on Thursday was arrested for corruption and documents of assets worth Rs.15 crore were seized from him in raids, police said. However, Gopalakrishna, who started his job in the assembly as a typist in 1973, denied allegations and claimed that it was his hard earned money. Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted raids on Gopalakrishna's residence here and other premises in Nellore and Chittoor districts. ACB Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shikha Goel told reporters that valuables and documents of the properties worth Rs.15 crore were recovered.

In Hyderabad alone, the official, his wife and son own as many as 33 properties, including land in prime areas. The searches at Gopalakrishna's residence in posh Banjara Hills neighborhood here yielded cash of Rs.12.86 lakh and foreign currency, 1.18 kg of gold, designer jewellery, and 9.4 kg of silver. An official said USD 1,000 American in cash were also recovered. The accused has accounts in 10 banks. The ACB sleuths expect more recovery after opening the bank lockers.
