Hyderabad, May 15th: APSRTC has decided to come up with low floor buses in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam. In a total it is likely to introduce nearly 1500 buses in these three cities. The authorities have taken this decision as these buses are safer since they have no steps, have large sliding windows, handle bars, pneumatic doors ad more space for standing passengers. The RTC is hoping that accidents will come down with the introduction of low floor buses as it is estimated that over 100 passengers die every year after slipping from foot boards of buses.
Delhi and other metros have already introduced these buses which have a floor height of 380 mm from the ground. The union government which is providing Rs 300 crore for the purchase of these buses asked the RTC to buy only these low floor buses. According to the managing director of RTC, Mr. V Dinesh Reddy the passengers will have a hassle free journey in these buses. He said that special training classes will be held for the RTC drivers to help them handle low floor buses.
